Breakdown Recovery on the M23

A short motorway with a lot of traffic

The M23 runs only about 17 miles, from junction 7 of the M25 near Merstham, south past Redhill to Gatwick and Crawley, ending at Pease Pottage, where it becomes the A23 towards Brighton. Much of it is smart motorway, so watch the overhead signs and look for emergency areas if your car starts to struggle.

Gatwick Airport (junction 9)

Junction 9 serves Gatwick Airport through a short spur road. Airport car parks are one of the most common places for a car not to start, after a week or two of standing, especially in cold weather. Tell us which terminal and car park, and roughly where you parked. A jump start may be all it needs.

Crawley and the road to Brighton

South of Gatwick the motorway passes Crawley and ends at Pease Pottage, where there are services. The A23 continues south to Brighton as a dual carriageway. If you've broken down on the A23, tell us that you're past the end of the motorway, and the nearest junction or village.
