The city centre loop

Traffic in central Leeds runs mainly one way around the City Centre Loop, with bus lanes and pedestrianised streets in the middle. A breakdown here usually means a car stuck in a lane with buses behind it, so put your hazards on, get to the pavement and tell us the street and nearest landmark, such as the station, the Corn Exchange or the Headrow.

The Inner Ring Road

The Leeds Inner Ring Road runs around the north of the centre partly in cuttings and tunnels, with short slip roads and quick lane changes. It's not a place to stop if you can avoid it. If the car is struggling, try to exit at the next junction. If it stops in a live lane, stay in the car with your seatbelt on, hazards on, and call 999 if you're in danger, then call us once it's safe.

The M621, M1 and M62

The M621 links the city centre with the M62 and the M1, passing Elland Road and Beeston. The M1 curves around the east of the city to its end at the A1(M), and the M62 runs to the south past the Lofthouse interchange. These roads carry a lot of freight and commuter traffic, and they're where many of our Leeds recoveries come from. Each motorway has its own page with advice for that road.

Broken down on the ring road or a motorway around Leeds? Get as far left as you can and put your hazards on. If it's safe, get out by the left-hand door and stand behind the barrier. If you can't, stay in the car with your seatbelt on and call 999. Then call us with the road, the nearest junction and your direction.

Around Leeds

We cover the whole Leeds district and the surrounding towns, including Headingley, Roundhay, Pudsey, Morley, Horsforth, Garforth and Wetherby, as well as nearby Bradford, Wakefield and Harrogate. Whether you're on a terraced street, at a retail park or in a supermarket car park, call with your postcode or a nearby landmark and we'll take it from there.
