Breakdown Recovery in London
London is the hardest place in the UK to break down: heavy traffic, red routes, bus lanes, low bridges and very little room to stop. We arrange recovery anywhere in Greater London, day or night, from a side street in Zone 1 to the North Circular or the M25.

Where you've stopped changes everything
A breakdown on a quiet residential street in Ealing and one on the Blackwall Tunnel approach are completely different jobs. On a side street you can usually wait in or by the car while recovery comes to you. On a busy main road with no pavement space, the priority is getting yourself out of danger first. When you call, tell us the road name, the nearest junction or landmark and which way you were heading, and we'll plan the safest way to reach you.
Red routes and bus lanes
Many of London's main roads are red routes, managed by Transport for London, where stopping is restricted. If your car breaks down on one, you haven't done anything wrong, but it does mean the car needs moving promptly. Put your hazard lights on, stay safely off the carriageway and let us know you're on a red route or in a bus lane. These are often the jobs that need the fastest response.
The North and South Circular
The A406 North Circular and A205 South Circular carry huge volumes of traffic through the suburbs, with fast dual-carriageway sections, tight junctions and long queues. Parts of the North Circular run like a motorway, with little room to stop. If you break down on one of them, get out on the side away from the traffic if you can, stand well back, and give us the nearest junction or landmark: Brent Cross, Hanger Lane, Walthamstow or Catford, for example.
Tunnels and bridges
The Blackwall and Rotherhithe tunnels and the Thames bridges are among the worst places to break down. Tunnels are monitored, and if you stop in one, the control room will usually respond first and move your vehicle out to a safe place. Call us once you're out, and we'll arrange recovery from there.
Broken down on a busy London road? Hazard lights on, then get yourself and your passengers onto the pavement or behind a barrier, away from moving traffic and buses. Don't try to push the car across lanes. Call us with the road name, nearest junction and your direction of travel.
ULEZ and the Congestion Charge
The Ultra Low Emission Zone now covers all London boroughs, and the Congestion Charge applies in central London. Neither should stop you calling for help when your car won't move. What matters is where the vehicle goes next: if you'd normally drive a non-compliant car out of the zone, let us know where you want it taken and we'll plan around it.
Car parks, driveways and the M25
A lot of London breakdowns happen somewhere awkward: an underground car park with a low height barrier, a narrow mews, or a driveway behind a gate. Tell us about height limits, ramps and access when you call, so a suitable recovery vehicle is sent the first time. Further out, the M25, M1 and M4 each have their own page with motorway-specific advice.
London Recovery FAQs
My car has broken down on a red route. Will I get a fine?
A genuine breakdown is not the same as choosing to stop, but the vehicle does need to be moved as soon as possible. Put your hazards on, stay safe and call us straight away so it can be recovered promptly.
Can you recover a car from an underground car park in London?
Usually, yes. Tell us the height limit at the entrance, which level the car is on and whether there are tight ramps. Some underground car parks need a smaller vehicle or a different method, and knowing this in advance saves time.
Do you cover the whole of Greater London?
Yes. We arrange recovery across all London boroughs and out to the M25. We'll give you an honest estimate of the arrival time when you call.
