Breakdown Recovery on the M60

The M60 loops right round Manchester, and almost every journey across Greater Manchester touches it. If you've broken down on it, call us with your junction and whether you're going clockwise or anticlockwise.

From £125 · 24/7 · often with you in about 30 minutes (depends on location and traffic)

A ring road numbered clockwise

The M60 is about 36 miles long, and its junctions are numbered clockwise starting at Stockport (junction 1). Because it's a loop, "clockwise" or "anticlockwise" is more useful than north or south. Tell us your direction and the last junction number you saw, and we'll know exactly where you are.

The busiest spots

  • Barton Bridge: the high bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal near the Trafford Centre, exposed to wind and with little room to stop.
  • The Trafford Centre: heavy shopping traffic merging on and off, especially at weekends and before Christmas.
  • Simister Island: the interchange where the M60, M62 and M66 meet north of Manchester, one of the busiest and most confusing junctions in the North West.
  • Stockport: where the M60 runs through the town centre near the famous blue pyramid.

Shared with the M62

Around the north of Manchester, the M60 and the M62 share the same road, and the signs show M60 junction numbers. If you think you're on the M62 but the sign says M60, you're probably on this section. Just tell us the number you can see.

Smart motorway: large parts of the M60 are smart motorway. If your car is struggling, aim for an emergency area (orange surface, SOS sign). If you're stopped in a live lane and can't get out safely, stay in the car with your seatbelt on and call 999.

Around the ring road

The M60 connects to the M56 for Manchester Airport, the M62 to Leeds and Liverpool, the M61 to Preston, the M66 to Bury and the M67 towards Glossop. For recovery in the city itself, see Manchester.
