Breakdown Recovery in Newcastle
Newcastle and Gateshead sit either side of the Tyne, joined by a string of bridges, a tunnel and some very busy bypasses. We arrange recovery anywhere on Tyneside, 24 hours a day.
From £125 · 24/7 · often with you in about 30 minutes (depends on location and traffic)
The A1 Western Bypass and the Metrocentre
The A1 Western Bypass runs past Gateshead, the Metrocentre and Team Valley and on round the west of Newcastle, carrying long-distance traffic as well as everyone heading into the city. It queues badly at peak times, especially near the Metrocentre. If you break down on it, get as far left as you can and behind the barrier if it's safe, and tell us the nearest junction and your direction.
The Central Motorway and the bridges
The A167(M) Central Motorway runs through the middle of Newcastle in a cutting, with closely spaced junctions and little room to stop. South of it, traffic crosses the Tyne on the Tyne Bridge, the Redheugh Bridge and others. If you stop on a bridge, stay with the car if it isn't safe to walk, hazards on, and call us with the name of the bridge and your direction.
The Tyne Tunnel
The A19 crosses under the river through the Tyne Tunnel, east of the city. It's monitored by its own operators, who deal with breakdowns inside and move vehicles out to a safe place. Call us once you're out. Remember the tunnel toll is paid online with no barrier, so pay it by the deadline even if you broke down.
Driving a van? Newcastle and Gateshead have a Clean Air Zone in the city centre. Private cars aren't charged, but older non-compliant vans, taxis and lorries are. Tell us where the van needs to go and we'll plan the route.
Across Tyneside
We cover Newcastle, Gateshead, North and South Tyneside, Sunderland, Washington and the surrounding area. Breakdowns at the Metrocentre, at St James' Park on match days or at Newcastle Airport are all fine: just tell us exactly where you are.
Newcastle Recovery FAQs
I've broken down in the Tyne Tunnel. What happens?
The tunnel operators deal with breakdowns inside the tunnel and move the vehicle to a safe place. Once you're out, call us and we'll arrange recovery to your garage or home.
Does the Newcastle Clean Air Zone affect recovery?
It doesn't affect recovering your vehicle. Private cars aren't charged in the zone, though older non-compliant vans, taxis and lorries are.
Do you cover Sunderland and Gateshead too?
Yes. We arrange recovery across Tyneside and Wearside, and we'll give you an honest arrival estimate when you call.
